It turns out marketing is the preferred occupation of many aspiring businesswomen; In the past, some believed that women sought marketing jobs, because they were all about making pretty brochures and planning parties…. But fortunately, those days are over. Pulling together integrated marketing is a real art. Some experts suggest that part of the reason for the attraction is that women want a job that requires creativity and vision. Another reason some suggest is because working in marketing is not a solitary pursuit: collaboration, a major component of most marketing jobs, is a priority for women. Lifestyle might be a factor, too. Compared to other business functions like investment banking or sales, marketing can offer more flexibility for better work/life balance. But it all depends on what marketing job you hold and at what company. Like any industry these days, the higher you climb up the ladder, the harder it will be to telecommute or avoid travel. At #HOB we believe and we invest on women: first, they have to stand out from the crowd! Also, women can always positively influence the bottom line. Finally, women marketers, are able to analyze numbers to make sure the work they are doing is driving business.
On the other side, #marketing through the ages helped #women to bring into the spotlight the #female virtues. Mass media play a unique and important role in the shaping of a society where men and women enjoy equal rights. A number of international conferences and conventions have voiced and publicized the need to break public stereotypes through change in the media policy. Just twenty years ago, UN Member States recognized the central role of media in shifting the gender stereotypes that influence how we think and act.
#Mass media, however, continue to reproduce discriminatory stereotypes about women and portray them in sexist ways. As a rule, women are portrayed in a narrow range of characters in mass media; you could go to a film, switch on the TV, tune in to the radio, turn the pages of a magazine, or surf online and regardless of your choice of media, you’d have a good chance of encountering stereotypes that perpetuate gender discrimination. Women in all types of media tend to be sexualized, usually portrayed as young, slim and with beauty that meets the accepted standards. They talk less than men. They have fewer opinions. And they are far less likely, in the entertainment industry, to play roles as leaders or professionals, or even as women who work for a living. Media images of women are a subject of criticism since 1960s.
